DICK
ORKIN - Founded a commercial production business
in Chicago in 1967.
At first, Dick was joined by B. Ziggy Stone ("The
Creative Monopoly") and later with Bert Berdis (as "Dick
and Bert") and then they all moved to California where
Bert went off on his own.
Dick named the new company, "The
Radio Ranch" and then with Chicagoan Christine Coyle,
he later co-founded the "Famous Radio Ranch with Dick
and Chris." They collected a healthy score of radio
award trophies, IBA's to Clio's and more.
Dick was inducted into
the NAB Radio Hall of Fame in 2001.
CHRISTINE
COYLE - a Chicago native was passing out tutti
fruitti gum samples on Michigan Avenue (a Kelly Girl
assignment), when she handed a free sample pack to Dick
Orkin. They talked. They laughed.
Quick cut to Hollywood—three
months later and Christine is writing and directing for
the Radio Ranch.
Today, as Creative Director,
Christine supervises the scheduling, brainstorming and
writing of Radio Ranch assignments, and directs virtually
all original production. She also performs in many of the
commercials.
With Dick Orkin, Christine
has co-facilitated the Radio Ranch Creativity Workshops,
RADIO: ADCRAFTING WITH SOUL throughout the United States,
Germany, Belgium, Ireland and South Africa. She was also
a partner with him in the writing and production of two
animated children's specials for CBS-TV.
Christine graduated with
a B.S. Degree in Theater Arts (with emphasis on acting
and directing) from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale,
Illinois.
Christine is married to
Johnny Johnson and has two children, Alexandra and Ryan.
They Reside in Burbank, California.
SANDY
ORKIN - recently rejoined the Famous Radio Ranch
as Pres of DOCSI. Sandy began his broadcast career at
the age of 16 as a DJ for WKOK radio in Sunbury, PA.
After attending Shippensburg University as an English
Major and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC,
Sandy resumed his broadcast and advertising endeavors
working as a DJ, News Director and Program Director at
various radio stations in the Harrisburg, PA. area and
later served as a copywriter and creative director at
a Harrisburg Ad Agency. In 1970, Sandy joined his brother,
Dick, in Chicago where he established the Chicago Radio
Syndicate and distributed programming to more than 2500
radio stations worldwide. Chickenman & Tooth Fairy
remain in syndication to this day. Sandy left the Ranch
in the late 80’s to pursue other interests including
voiceover. Since then Sandy has narrated numerous A&E
BIOGRAPHY TV SHOWS, THE (former) NASHVILLE NETWORK “LIFE & TIMES” series
and 26 episodes of THE HISTORY CHANNEL’S CIVIL
WAR JOURNAL as well as shows on other various cable networks.
In addition, Sandy has also voiced radio commercials
for Lexus, AT&T, Norwest Financial and others.
